Why Data Storytelling + Finding Stories

• Importance of storytelling in policy, media, research

• Framework: Data -> Design -> Story

• Types of data stories: trend, proportion, outlier, comparison

• Real-life examples and short activity on identifying story angles

Session 2:

Excel+ Datawrapper

• Cleaning, pivot tables, filters, formatting in Excel

• Choosing the right chart type

• Creating and styling charts in Datawrapper

• Hands-on task: Clean -> Chart -> Narrate with caption

Session 3:

Flourish + Python (Demo)

• Interactive and animated storytelling in Flourish

• Templates: bar race, slope charts, maps

• Python (demo): pandas for filtering, seaborn for charting

• Mini-challenge: replicate a charted story

Session 4:

Geo-visualisation + Wrap-up

• GIS basics, open datasets for maps

• QGIS walkthrough: load shapefiles, choropleth creation

• Story framing with spatial data

• Final project + certification + feedback
